Anne Zerr, R-St. Charles, was recently honored for her outstanding advocacy for tourism in Missouri. Zerr, who is serving in the second year of her first term in the Missouri House of Representatives, received a Freshman Legislator of the Year Award for Outstanding Tourism Advocacy from House Speaker Ron Richard, R-Joplin. Zerr was honored for her leadership as chair of the House Tourism Committee and for her efforts to pass legislation to help bring additional tourism dollars into Missouri. </font></p> <p><font size="2" face="Verdana"> From day one, Rep. Zerr has been an exceptional advocate for not only tourism but all aspects of economic development here in our state. She is someone who has earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues by working diligently to help turn our economy around, said Speaker Richard.  She truly deserves all of the praise I can give her and there is no one more deserving of this award. </font></p> <p><font size="2" face="Verdana">During the 2010 regular session, Zerr sponsored legislation to help give casinos a competitive edge with those in neighboring states. The bill she handled in the House and that was signed into law gives casino patrons the ability to use casino chips to purchase food and beverages while on the gaming floor of excursion gambling boats. Zerr said the change will make it easier for casino workers to serve patrons food or beverages on the casino floor.</font></p> <p><font size="2" face="Verdana"> We all know that our economy isn t where we want it to be, but we re only going to turn things around by instituting policies that bring in more tourism dollars and help our businesses expand and flourish, said Zerr. Zerr has worked for the passage of priority legislation aimed at creating new jobs in Missouri while improving commerce throughout the state. Zerr is a strong advocate for the small business owners of Missouri and for business in general. The honor is given annually to St. Louis lawmakers who have positively impacted the business interests of St. Louis residents during the 2010 legislative session.</font></p> <p><font size="2" face="Verdana"> It is an honor to be recognized for this award, said Rep. Zerr.  It has been a pleasure to work in the best interests of my constituents and the business community. We made significant strides this year that will positively impact our area and the state. </font></p> <p><font size="2" face="Verdana">Rep. Zerr sponsored a number of economic developmental bills in the 2010 session. One bill that received final approval was SB 984 which lets patrons of excursion gambling boats to use their casino chips to pay for food and beverage.
